La existencia de comunidades, y asociaciones mapuches en la comuna y la necesidad manifiesta estas organizaciones de fortalecer su identidad local. Lo dispuesto en el dictamen N\u00b022.247 del 2010 de la Contralor\u00eda Regional de la Araucan\u00eda en donde se indica que \u201clas municipalidades pueden establecer las modalidades de participaci\u00f3n de la etnia Mapuche dentro del Territorio Jurisdiccional de manera de reconocer  fomentar la expresi\u00f3n de sus valores, culturas y tradiciones\u00bb.<\/p>\n

En el acuerdo N\u00b0160 de fecha 15 de junio de 2017 en donde el honorable Concejo Municipal de la Comuna de Lonquimay aprueba el izamiento de la Bandera Mapuche junto con el Pabell\u00f3n patrio dentro de los l\u00edmites de la Comuna de Lonquimay.<\/p>\n

El izamiento de la bandera mapuche junto al pabell\u00f3n nacional en el frontis de la Municipalidad de Lonquimay y en las dem\u00e1s reparticiones municipales o servicios traspasados, en todo acto, celebraci\u00f3n o manifestaci\u00f3n donde sea izado el pabell\u00f3n patrio este \u00faltimo deber\u00e1 ser acompa\u00f1ado de la bandera mapuche.<\/p>\n
